one game changes everything.

the end of the world cup is like the day after christmas...it sucks. and to top it off, the netherlands lost in the finals. not that i really mind spain winning because i like david villa and they have never won. but spain's game of soccer is not very exciting and the netherlands had such a great tournament and now have been to the finals 4 times and lost all 4...and i really wanted bronckhorst to get the win, it was his last game before retiring and i really had a liking for him. i have never so angry as when they took him out in overtime, in his last game ever. i also really like watching robben and sneijder play. i'm basically obsessed with the two of them. so it was a disappointing finals for me. netherlands deserved it more in my mind.

this world cup was interesting. the refs were horrendous. there were so many bad calls and a lot of teams got ripped off. like the goal that the usa scored against slovenia that was apparently a foul, when in reality our players were being bear hugged. i was counting on the usa making it to at least the semi's, but what can you do? the england germany game was a joke. germany's first goal was clearly offsides and englands soccer goal was obviously across the line. make those calls right and you get a completely different result. all the big names were knocked out fairly early. france and italy were in the finals last year with italy winning and neither team made it anywhere. all the south american teams got knocked out early, brazil, argentina. i wish portugal had made it farther because i enjoy watching ronaldo play, not to mention his good looks. ghana got the worst deal against uruguay, they cheated their way to the finals. i think, especially in the world cup, there needs to be reviews and things like american football, but i guess that's just soccer for ya. a lot of the big name players didn't exactly show up this tournament. where was rooney, kaka, messi, ronaldo?

that all being said i loved having so many soccer games to watch. i love the world cup and i am going to miss it.. now what do i do that it's over? wait till the women's world cup in germany next year i guess and then 3 more years for the next world cup, where i know our usa boys will pull through. with upcoming talent like altidore, findley, and howard, i know we'll do well.
